12 Ellements of Recovery
                                                    12 Elements of
                                                             RECOVERY
                                                                by Preston Page LCSW, LSATP

1. Complete  acceptance of addiction.  Without complete acceptance that you are addicted  none of the following will seem
necessary. Relapse, even after years of recovery, often begins with doubting your addiction.

4. Knowledge of Recovery and Addiction: Recovery means not using and changing yourself into someone who loves the
non-using life. Knowing your disease is part of your Recovery.

2. Self Help Group Involvement. AA and NA are the basic groups, but there are others RR, SOS, Women for Sobriety,
Christians in Recovery, and Caduceus for those in the medical l field. Self-help
groups are great sources of support and knowledge about living recovery.

3. Counseling. Counseling gives you the opportunity for a through education about addiction and
Recovery as well as a confidential access to someone, who will help you deal with your past, live for the day, and give you
the tools to plan your future.

5. Family Support  Family is one of the most important things in our lives. Whatever the make up of  our family we need to
accept and deal with them in a positive way.

6. Social Support  You had lots of support in living the life of the addict. You will need support to live the life of Recovery.

7. Caring for your Mental Health: Addictive use of alcohol and drugs have harmed your mental health, you will need to work
to rebuild it. Stress and other mental health problems lead to relapse.

8. Caring for your Physical Health. Our physical health is the key to life. We extend our lives and make enjoying life possible.

9. Caring for your Spiritual Health. The Spirit is perhaps the most important thing of being human. It can mean so many things,
a higher power, who we are, our place in the universe, the world, and society.

10. Relapse Prevention Plans Are step by step ways to be in and stay in Recovery. They help you find your weak points so
you can deal with them and your strong points so you can use them to deal with the disease of addiction.

11. Monitor and Manage  YOUR Recovery Program To know how your Recovery is going you must consistently ask
yourself how am I doing, am I doing the right things, am I meeting my expectations of myself,  am I in trouble? If so, what
should I do?

12. Love and Laughter:   A life of Recovery should be full of fun, joy, and love to weaken the power addiction has over you.
